Havana, May 30 (RHC), -- The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC-EP) stated Saturday that the entrance of Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin to the peace talks in Havana will contribute to overcoming many issues.
"We think that the diplomatic experience by Foreign Minister Holguin can bring the necessary dose of tranquility. Welcome," states a FARC-EP statement, dated today in the Colombian mountain ranges and signed by Timoleon Jimenez, commander in chief of the general staff of the guerrilla group.
Posted on its website, the text expressed the insurgent group's confidence in the role that Luis Carlos Villegas, recently appointed Minister of Defense, can play within the Armed Forces, due to his great expertise in the process.
The FARC-EP understand that gesture and official efforts for the peace talks in Havana are a major commitment by President Juan Manuel Santos in search of understanding.
In addition to the Colombian foreign minister, Gonzalo Restrepo, one of the most representative voices of the managerial and oil sector, joins in today's peace talks between the government and the guerrilla.
The text recalls that Cuba and Norway, guarantor countries in the peace process, expressed concern for the escalation of the confrontation, and called on both parties to work for saving negotiations.
