Lima, August 20 (Prensa Latina-RHC)-- A march in Lima to protest against the frequent presence of U.S. troops in Peru, rejected the next arrival on September 1st of 3200 American soldiers with ships, planes and other weaponry.
Wednesday's rally, which started in the San Martín Square and reached near the U.S. embassy, condemned the permission granted by parliament for the entry of the strong U.S. military contingent.
Members of various political and social organizations pointed out the constant U.S. military presence threatens the Peruvian sovereignty and national security.
In a park near the embassy, demonstrators gathered at a rally in which Guillermo Bermejo, on behalf of the group Ágora Popular, explained that last night was the first of a series of demonstrations to reject the American soldiers.
Young representative Jonathan Saavedra called to protest against that presence 'that offends the dignity of Peruvians' and in many countries has meant massacres, torture and other abuses.
Bethy of Romainville, from the Alpha and Omega religious group, criticized the parliament for facilitating, against the people's will, the entrance of foreign soldiers.
