Santiago de Chile, September 26 (PL-RHC) -- Chile is arranging the last details to create the first World Seismological Center in order to help the international community to prepare against the scourge of earthquakes.

The initiative takes place in connection with the earthquake Simulation Exercise (Simex), a regional exercise that develops United Nations in Santiago de Chile.

Interior Minister Jorge Burgos and Interior Deputy Minister Mahmud Aleuy lead the work with various Chilean sectors to set this idea.

Aleuy stressed in a press release that Chile is the most seismically active country in the world, and was hit in Valdivia in 1960 by the largest earthquake ever recorded, which reached 9.5 degrees on the Richter scale.

The southern nation is still suffering the consequences of the 8.4 degrees earthquake that struck the country on September 16, which left 15 dead and more than 12,000 affected.

Chile will host on Friday and Saturday the earthquake Simulation Exercise (Simex), to test the response mechanisms during a high-intensity earthquake.

The exercise will be held at Espacio Riesco events center, outskirts of the capital.
