Montevideo, November 20 (PL-RHC)-- The House of Representatives of Uruguay passed a bill to implement various public policies seeking to take care of and protect dependent people.

This initiative, passed last night by 75 out of the 77 parliamentarians present in the House of Representatives, is called National Integrated Care System and has already been passed in the Senate.

Following the required procedures, the bill will be presented now to the Executive for its enactment, on a date yet to be defined.

The initiative, launched by Tabare Vazquez during the electoral campaign, includes various actions and measures outlined to design and implement public policies to define a model of solidarity and co-responsibility between families, the State, community and market.

Among the basic principles are its comprehensive and non-discriminatory approach, the quality of services, promotion of joint responsibility, territorial decentralization and training of workers of the system.

"The people to benefit from the initiative are those under 12 years (children under three years will have priority) and those over 65 years, who have lost their autonomy to perform activities of daily living, as well as those people who can not fend for themselves", said parliamentarian Alfredo Asti.
