New York, February 2 (RHC)-- Venezuela's Ambassador to the UN Rafael Ramírez has said that his country will support ongoing efforts at the UN Security Council to achieve peace in Colombia.
Venezuela has assumed the rotating presidency of the UN organ for the month of February.
At a closed-door session Monday to present the work plan of the council, Ramírez said that Caracas is ready and willing to support the Colombian government and people in their quest for peace.
The Venezuelan diplomat pointed to a consensus among the council's 15 members on the need to achieve a lasting peace in the South American nation, and mentioned the unanimous adoption of Security Council Resolution 2261, which stipulates the creation of a political mission that will verify an eventual ceasefire and disarmament in Colombia.
