Havana, June 23 (RHC)-- A bilateral cease fire agreement has been signed between the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-Peoples’ Army (FARC-EP) and the Colombian government.

The breakthrough deal, reached after nearly four years of negotiations, includes terms on an armistice, the handing over of weapons and the security of insurgents who give up their arms.

World leaders arrived in Cuba for the historic event, including UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, Salvador Sanchez Ceren, president of El Salvador, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto and Chilean President Michelle Bachlet.

Thursday's ceremony was presided over by Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos and FARC-EP Commander Timoleón Jiménez, together with Cuban President Raul Castro and Norwegian Foreign Minister Borge Brende, representing the guarantor countries.
