Washington, July 29 (RHC) -- Cuban and U.S. officials are gathered in Washington for the 2nd Meeting on Compensation Claims.

Cuban experts and officials with the US departments of State, Justice and the Treasury are analyzing different options for economic compensation, according to the demands by each side.

The United States is demanding compensation for the companies and property nationalized after the 1959 Cuban Revolution. Cuba is demanding compensation for the damage caused by nearly 60 years of U.S. blockade against the Caribbean state.

The current meeting is as part of the process towards the normalization of bilateral relations.

The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the first such meetings, which was held in December 2015 in Havana, was held in a respectful and professional climate. On that occasion, the two delegations exchanged information on outstanding issues regarding the compensation claims of each side.
