Havana, January 9 (RHC)-- The historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, attended the inauguration of an Art Studio in a Havana neighborhood that has been revived and is now a flourishing cultural area, with restored and painted homes, paved streets and their boulevards filled with flowers.

The art studio is managed by the well-known Cuban painter and sculptor known as Kcho. The inauguration coincided with the 55th anniversary of the arrival in Havana of the victorious Rebel Army Freedom Caravan, led by Fidel Castro, following the defeat of the Batista dictatorship.

Havana's City Historian, Eusebio Leal and Kcho himself unveiled a plaque recalling the event. The Gallery is showing paintings by Wifredo Lam and sculptures done by Kcho himself.

Fidel Castro toured the installation and greeted the artists and area residents that gathered upon learning that he was there.

The new cultural center also includes a public library and an experimental workshop for the graphic arts, opened to area residents.
