Tremors Reported in Central and Western Cuban Provinces

Havana, January 10 (RHC)-- A tremor was felt Thursday afternoon in the provinces of Havana and Matanzas, while a similar phenomenon was registered in Central Villa Clara. No human or material damage.

Havana residents surprisingly felt the tremor in several areas of the city capital shortly before 4 pm local time on Thursday, and in Varadero tourist center and Jaguey Grande municipality, western Matanzas province.

According to the Cuba Seismologic Service, the tremor was reported at 4.9 on the Richter scale at 23. 39 North, 80. 99 West to the North of Varadero, in Matanzas and at a 20 kilometer depth.

Meanwhile, on Friday morning the Seismologic Service registered a 3.9 tremor to the North of Villa Clara province, central Cuba, it was reported at 10 kilometers deep at 23.40 North and 80.62 West.  The phenomenon was felt by residents in two municipalities of that territory, but no human or material damage was reported.
