Havana, October 19 (RHC/acn)-- United States Secretary of Health and Human Services Sylvia Burwell will attend a medical gathering here in Havana over the next several days.
Director General for United States in the Cuban Foreign Ministry Josefina Vidal said in her Twitter account that Secretary Burwell will be in Cuba on a working visit from October 20th through the 22nd and will participate in a regional meeting on Zika and other mosquito-borne diseases that gets underway tomorrow, Thursday, October 20th.
The U.S. official’s visit to Cuba is considered to be part of the process of normalization of relations between Cuba and the United States. The visit is one of seven high level exchanges between the two countries in October and November.
Cuban Health Minister Roberto Morales traveled to the U.S. in June and held official talks with his U.S. counterpart, who will now visit Havana. Also in June, the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate in the field of health.
The regional meeting on Zika and other mosquito-borne diseases in Havana is organized by the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Cuban Health Ministry and will be held at the city’s Hotel Nacional.
