United Nations, January 17 (RHC)-- Cuba and Nicaragua were ratified as members of the Committee of the United Nations on the Inalienable Rights of Palestine. Also ratified were Senegal, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Namibia and Malta, according to PL news agency.
In its first session this year, the group set up by the UN General Assembly in 1975, confirmed Cuban ambassador Rodolfo Reyes and Nicaragua's ambassador Maria Rubiales as members of the vice-presidency in the bureau of the Committee. The committee also adopted a working program for 2014, which includes meetings, publications, lectures and the training of political Palestinian leaders. The forums on the agenda will take place in Cairo, Quito and at UN venues in New York and Geneva.
High on the agenda is the support and follow up of the resumption last July of peace talks between Palestine and Israel. During the session of the committee, several speakers denounced the aggressiveness of Israel and its negative impact on the peace process, which was stalled due to the policy implemented by Tel Aviv in the occupied Palestinian territories.
