Havana, January 20 (RHC-acn)-- Five years into the implementation of a water loss reduction program in Havana, water authorities in Cuba's capital city said 217 works have been completed, benefiting more than one million residents.
National Water Resources Institute delegate in the city, Javier Toledo, told the media here that the investments have resulted in some 23 thousand people who were previously being supplied water in tanks now enjoying running water. He said pipe leaks accounting for a loss of about 1500 liters per second were also fixed as part of the water recovery program.
Toledo said the pumping capacity in the supply system had been increased and more than 46 thousand new water meters were installed in homes and offices. The Havana city water loss reduction program is expected to extend for a period of 14 years.
