Managua, April 22 (RHC)-- The Nicaraguan army has paid tribute to the victory of the Cuban Revolution at Playa Girón, which occurred 56 years ago, and was considered the first defeat of imperialism in Latin America.
The event held in Managua, the Nicaraguan capital, also paid homage to First Lieutenant Carlos Ulloa, a Nicaraguan pilot, who died fighting in combat while supporting the revolutionary cause.
In less than 72 hours, the militia and Rebel Army, with great inferiority in terms of armament, defeated the invasion begun on April 16, 1961, at the same time proclaiming the socialist character of the nascent Revolution.
In addition, participants at the event highlighted the leading role of Fidel Castro in the direction of the operations that led to the triumph over mercenary forces, trained and equipped by the United States government.
