Havana, May 8 (RHC)-- King Phillip VI of Spain has presented Havana's Historian Eusebio Leal Spengler with the Royal Order of Isabella the Catholic.
The distinction was granted by the king at the proposal of Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Alfonso Dastis. PhD in Historical Sciences Leal Spengler stands out for his personal efforts in the restoration of Old Havana, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982.
Created on March 14th, 1815, by King Ferdinand VII of Spain in honor of Queen Isabella I of Castile, the Order of Isabella the Catholic is a Spanish civil order in which membership is granted in recognition of services that benefit the country or its friendship and cooperation relations with other nations.
