Havana, June 30 (RHC)-- “The ties that unite Cuba and Portugal are in an excellent state,” said the General Secretary of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) Jerónimo de Souza, who visited Cuba recently, heading a PCP delegation.
In an exclusive interview granted to Granma International, De Souza said Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa’s Cuba last year, and Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez’s latest tour of the European nation in April this year are further confirmation of the excellent state of bilateral links, based on a strong friendship and solidarity.
In the interview, the Portuguese communist leader referred to the activities carried out on the island and the main tasks in which the PCP is currently immersed. He explained that during his stay in Cuba he held several meetings with authorities, in which he was able to verify the great efforts being made by the Caribbean state toward its economic and social development.
In addition, De Souza learned about the difficulties encountered during this process, resulting from both external and internal factors. However, he noted the confidence and conviction that such difficulties will be overcome in order to maintain the Cuban revolutionary project.
