Havana, February 10 (RHC)- The 9th International University Congress, underway in Havana until Friday, February 14th, is being attended by renowned personalities, such as Brazilian theologian Frei Betto, Nobel Peace laureate Adolfo Perez Esquivel and Argentinian political analyst Atilio Boron.
The European Commissioner of Education, Culture and Youth, Cypriot Androulla Vassiliou, is also participating and will deliver a keynote lecture during the event.
The forum has brought together 3,000 delegates from 60 countries and will focus on the contribution by students to local development, regional economic integration and the current challenges posed to inter-cultural dialog.
Also present are 240 university rectors, representatives of 17 international agencies and education officials from different countries, as well as the presidents of rectors' associations. University networks in solidarity with the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters who were given unfair sentences in the United States are also represented.
Participants will deliver over 600 papers. Visits to higher education centers have also been scheduled for the delegates.
