San Salvador, February 10 (RHC)-- Nearly one hundred Salvadorian medical doctors, graduates of Havana’s Latin American School of Medicine, have participated in the first meeting of the newly-created Association of Medical Professionals Graduated in Cuba.
Association President Patricia Alvares said that the doctors will continue to carry out their professional work, have juridical support, as well as take part in the health reforms underway in El Salvador.
In statements to Prensa Latina news agency, Dr. Alvarez said that the association will focus contributing to the ongoing training of new personnel that have come back home after having completed their medical studies.
Cuban ambassador to El Salvador, Iliana Fonseca, pointed out in the meeting that UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon recently visited Cuba, where he described the Latin American School of Medicine as the most developed center of its kind in the world.
The school was created in 1999 and had its first graduation ceremony in August 2005, which included 119 Salvadorian medical doctors. Since then, over 900 Salvadorians have graduated from the school and many of them are delivering medical services in different areas of El Salvador.
