New York, October 13 (RHC)-- Cuba urged at the United Nations a stronger political commitment to eradicating poverty globally.

Addressing a meeting of the UN General Assembly's Economic and Financial Committee, Cuban Diplomat Juan Miguel González termed as unacceptable that in the 21st century poverty still affects hundreds of millions of people around the world.

The Cuban senior diplomat further said that eradicating poverty will be an unachievable, unrealistic goal under the current world order, which he described as unsustainable and unfair.

He criticized the arms race and the millions of dollars spent every year in weapons and wars, arguing that the money 'could be better used to eradicate hunger and poverty and to assist developing countries toward sustainable development.'

The Cuban diplomat reasserted Cuba's full commitment to cooperating with other countries of the South toward sustainable development.
