Havana, November 24 (RHC)-- In all Cuban provinces, activities and marches will be held on Monday to honor the eight medical students, shot in 1871 by order of the Spanish colonial power.

In Havana, more than 30,000 middle and university students, as well as members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior, will make a pilgrimage through the main streets of the capital on Monday to honor the martyrs.

The false accusations in 1871 against the students, of having allegedly desecrated the tomb of Spanish journalist Gonzalo Castañón, culminated in the death sentence.

The executions shook Cuba at that time because of the ruthlessness of the murders and the colonialists' hatred of the Cuban people.
