Havana, Feb 16 (RHC)-- On the sidelines of the XI Annual Congress on Higher Education in Havana, Pierre Josué Agénor Cadet, Minister of National Education of Haiti, and José Ramón Saborido Loidi, Cuban Minister of Higher Education, have pledged to strengthen relations between the two countries in the field of higher education.
Minister Cadet welcomed and thanked, on behalf of the Government of Haiti, Cuba's strong contribution in the field of education, particularly with the many scholarships available to Haitian students.
Minister Cadet gave an update to his interlocutor on ongoing efforts in the field of higher education including initiatives undertaken to initiate a major reform in this field in Haiti. He announced the forthcoming Assises on Higher Education and Scientific Research in Haiti with the support of several foreign partner universities and academic agencies to find the best strategies to modernize practices and university management in Haiti while encouraging scientific research.
Minister José Ramón Saborido Loidi confirmed his full support for ongoing efforts in Haiti and the availability of his Ministry to support inter-university cooperation and research in Haiti.
Minister Cadet thanked his Cuban counterpart for his support and the widening of cooperation between Haitian and Cuban academics, particularly between regional public universities and Cuban universities.
A protocol of cooperation could be signed soon between the two countries to clarify the terms of the cooperation framework at the level of higher education.
