New York, Feb 24 (RHC)-- Cuba's Permanent Representative to the UN, Anayansi Rodríguez, has been re-elected to the vice-chair of the world body's Decolonization Committee. The Cuban's election came during the committee's first meeting in 2018.
The meeting also elected Antigua and Barbuda Permanent Representative Dr. Watson Webson as chairman of the Committee.
In an address following her election Cuban Ambassador Anayansi Rodríguez acknowledged the UN Secretary General's continued support for the work of the Decolonization Committee and pledged Cuba's position in favor of the UN-led decolonization process in the world.
Rodriguez said Cuba will continue to work actively within the Committee to ensure that the peoples of the 17 territories recognized as still not enjoying self-governance, and the people of Puerto Rico, see their legitimate aspirations of independence realized.
