Havana, March 1 (RHC) -- Cuban President Raul Castro met on Friday afternoon with one of the Cuban Five heroes, Fernando Gonzalez, who arrived in the Cuban capital after completing a long and unfair prison term in the United States.

The meeting, which took place at the Jose Marti International Airport upon Gonzalez' arrival, was also attended by his closest relatives and other Cuban government officials.

In a brief conversation with reporters following the meeting, Gonzalez thanked the Cuban people and all those who continue to support the campaign for the release of the group of Cuban anti-terrorists known as the Cuban Five.

He also higlighted the predicament of his three companions who are still suffering unjust imprisonment in U.S. jails.

On Thursday, Fernando González was released from a federal prison in Stafford, Arizona state, and was put under custody of immigration authorities to arrange his deportation to Cuba.

This is the second member of the internationally-known Cuban Five who completes his sentence after René González, who has also returned to Havana.

Fernando, René, Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero and Ramon Labañino were arrested in 1998 in the U.S. city of Miami, where they monitored the activities of U.S.-based terrorist groups planning violent actions against Cuba.
