Argentinean Cabinet Chief visits Cuba

Havana, May 29 (RHC)-- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez welcomed on Monday Argentine Cabinet Chief Marcos Peña, who made an official visit to Havana to strengthen bilateral relations.

The Argentine official traveled to Cuba with the government´s coordinator of strategic affairs, Norberto Pontiroli.

The Cuban foreign minister and the Argentine visitor discussed the state of bilateral relations and their perspectives, and exchanged on topics of mutual interest on the international agenda

Before returning to Buenos Aires met with the vice president of the Council of Ministers and head of the economy and planning, Ricardo Cabrisas, and with Trade and Foreign Investment Minister Rodrigo Malmierca.

Peña said on his Twitter account that the aim of the trip was to cement the links between his country and the Cuban government after the inauguration of President Miguel Diaz-Canel, who succeeded Raul Castro in the post on April 19.

The Argentine official’s visit follows one in March 2016 by then-Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra.

Currently, Argentina is standing out in terms of sending tourists to Cuba, with 102,000 travelers from the South American nation visiting the island in 2017.
