Havana, June 30 (RHC)-- The Director of the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Dr. Gerardo Guillén, confirmed that the institution is working on five of eight key projects focused on cancer prevention and treatment as well as heart conditions.
The Cuban professional noted that the projects are being undertaken by sector enterprise group BioCubaFarma, during an activity commemorating the center’s 32nd anniversary in island’s central province of Sancti Spíritus.
According to Dr. Guillén, key lines of work include the development of new medications to treat heart and brain disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and solid tumors, some of which are already showing positive results.
