Havana, July 2 (RHC)-- In addition to its sun and beach attraction for which it is internationally recognized, Cuba's Jardines del Rey tourist destination is emphasizing sporting events to promote values of Cuban culture.
Lesner Gomez, sub-delegate of the Ministry of Tourism in the territory, pointed out that excursions to the Jose Ramon Cepero stadium to watch baseball matches is a sought-after experience during Summer time, especially among Canadian visitors.
The tourist spot also organizes two tournaments of its own: the chess and the fishing tournament at the Marina Marlin of Guillermo Key, scheduled in October, during the high tourism season.
The tourism official added that Jardines del Rey recently hosted a meeting of the International Federation of Basque Pelota, the worldwide governing body for Basque pelota, recognized by the International Olympic Committee. At that meeting, the representatives of the participating national federations agreed that the Cuban tourism spot meets all the necessary requirements to host international competitions of the sports discipline.
Meanwhile, kite surfing courses are being offered to vacationers at the Sol Melia Cayo Guillermo hotel and the Cuban National Triathlon Commission is reviewing the possibility of marking a route to organize competitions of this discipline as well.
