Geneva, October 9 (RHC)-- Cuba's representative to UNESCO, Oscar León, has highlighted the important role of the organization in maintaining peace and security in the face of multiple global challenges.
Speaking in the 205th session of the UN body, León mentioned threats to humanity, such has the use of force, and imposition of coercive unilateral measures aimed at subjugating countries through starvation an deprivation.
“Nuclear weapons and the effects of climate change threaten humanity...while many scientists and world leaders are warning that the point of no return, at which we will no longer be able to reverse the effects of climate change, is drawing ever closer,” he stated.
The Cuban diplomat praised UNESCO's work toward achieving global development goal number four, linked to eduction.
