Beijing, March 13 (RHC)-- China today rejected the toughening of the US economic, financial and commercial blockade against Cuba through the application of Chapter III of the Helms-Burton Act, and denounced its harmful effects for the island's people.

Lu Kang, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told Prensa Latina that this position of repudiation is overwhelming among the member states of the United Nations, whose voices also demand an immediate halt to the hostile policy.

The spokesman considered Washington’s decision as another error and called for its correction because it affects the welfare and development of the Cuban population.

Lu stressed China's position on the entry into force on March 19th of Chapter III of the US Helms-Burton Act, described by many experts as the extreme dimension of the  blockade that has existed for more than half a century.

This section authorizes US citizens to file lawsuits against foreigners for alleged traffic with properties nationalized in Cuba aftr January 1, 1959.
