Havana, March 19 (RHC) -- In a meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, described the current international situation as an enormous challenge. The encounter took stock of the work undertaken by the Cuban diplomacy during 2018.
The Cuban head of state called on the Ministry to face such challenges with "firmness and intelligence to avoid isolation, without compromising on principles or positions."
Díaz-Canel reflected on aspects of international politics closely related to tLartn America and the Caribbean, which is experiencing a resurgence of colonialist and neoliberal governments backed by the U.S. and its Monroe Doctrine, in the midst of which the economic blockade against Cuba has been intensified, especially in the financial field.
"In this context, the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is key....Every time there is a diplomatic victory at the international level, our people feels it like theirs, like a victory for the country, "he said.
The Cuban leader went on to say that under the current circumstances, when there is a return to confrontation and new dangers arise , the country urgently needs to prepare itself. In this this context, this ministry has been able to add the talent of the most experienced officials to the formation of a generation of young diplomats with a high sense and revolutionary commitment.”
Diaz-Canel highlighted that the generational change that is gradually underway in the country, under the leadership of the Communist Party and its First Secretary, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, cannot deceive anyone and should not lead anyone to believe that there will be a change in Cuba's foreign policy.
"The foreign policy of the Cuban Revolution remains and will be the same", and he urged the Ministry officials to contribute to that goal.
