Havana, Apr 7 (RHC), -- Cuba on Sunday denounced a U.S. text messaging application known as "Piramideo," saying such a service was created for the country's "counter revolutionary groups to attack the Cuban government."

"Piramideo" was designed to provide a sort of communication channel between opposition groups and dissidents, Hilda Arias, director of Mobile Services of Cuba's Telecommunication Company (Etecsa), was quoted by local daily Juventud Rebelde as saying on Sunday.

Arias drew a parallel between "Piramideo" and "Zunzuneo", a recently revealed U.S. twitter-like application.

The Associated Press reported Thursday that "Zunzuneo," built by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), snared cell phone users to build a network with goals including mobilizing demonstrations.

The White House acknowledged the existence of "Zunzuneo" on Thursday, but denied the program's secrecy or intention.

Juventud Rebelde also referred to another USAID project "Commotion" that was launched in 2012, whose goal, the newspaper said, was to provide alleged Cuban technology entrepreneurs with necessary equipment to create their own networks and later connect them with foreign networks, by which they could spread stabilization activities against the government.

On Friday, the Cuban Foreign Ministry issued a statement demanding Washington stop its covert plans to subvert the island's government.
