Cuban president tours historic sites in St. Petersburg on first day of visit

St. Petersburg, October 27 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel is visiting the Russian city of St. Petersburg, where he is beginning the three-day working visit to Russia.  Early Sunday morning, he flew to St. Petersburg from Baku, where he participated in the 18th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement.

On the first day of his visit, the Cuban leader and his accompanying delegation toured the Piskarióvskoye Cemetery, where the remains are buried of more than 50,000 Soviet soldiers and 400,000 civilians, victims of the Leningrad blockade.

After their visit to the cemetery of Piskaviovskoye, the president his delegation toured the emblematic Aurora Cruiser, which fired the first shot of the Bolshevik attack on the Winter Palace during the October Revolution of 1917.
