Brasilia, April 16 (RHC) – Cuban writer Abel Prieto, advisor to Cuban President Raul Castro, arrived on Tuesday in Brasilia to participate in the Second Book and Reading Biennial, which will end on April 21st in Brazil.
Invited by the Organizing Committee of this book fiesta, Prieto offered a lecture on Tuesday entitled 'The Culture of Resistance: Cuba’s Experience', at the Jorge Ferreira literary cafe, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.
The author of the essays Los bitongos y los guapos (1980) and Noche de sabado (1989) and the novel El vuelo del gato (1999) will attend a commemorative meeting on Wednesday on the occasion of the 53rd anniversary of the Bay of Pigs victory, organized by the solidarity-with-Cuba committees of Brazil.
The 2nd Biennial offers a varied presentation of works, where books by authors of Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, Mexico, Peru, Chile, and Brazil, of African nations and of the United States can be purchased.
According to organizers, the Fair, in tents put up at the 'Explanada de los Ministerios', a central avenue of the Brazilian capital, should attract some 200,000 people over ten days.
