Havana, April 29 (RHC) – Friends of Cuba and anti-terrorist fighters paid homage in Havana to outstanding leader, Carlos Muñiz Varela, on the 35th anniversary of his assassination in Puerto Rico in the hands of U.S. ultra-right extremists.
Muñiz was taken to the United States at an early age as part of the CIA-led 'Peter Pan Operation' in the early 1960s, which gave the same fate to over 14,000 Cuban children.
Some years later, Muniz became a leader in the Puerto Rican struggle for independence.
General coordinator of the Antonio Maceo brigade, Andres Gomez, said that what marked Muniz as an enemy of reactionary groups in San Juan was his organization and promotion of trips to Cuba and his approach to the Cuban government.
The assassination of Muniz reveals the complicity between terrorists and certain U.S. circles of power, said Cuban intellectual, Ricardo Alarcon.
Meanwhile, Cuban anti-terrorist fighter, Rene Gonzalez, who is part of the group internationally known as the 'Cuban Five', gave his opinion on the fraudulent actions by US justice in the cases related to terrorism against Cuba.
Gonzalez said that the Cuban Five were “victims of biased trials which ended up with long sentences for having defended their country from terrorist actions”.
