Madrid, April 15 (RHC)-- Solidarity associations and social movements in Spain urged the United States on Wednesday to immediately end the blockade against Cuba to allow the island to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement, cited by Prensa Latina news agency,  the Euskadi-Cuba Basque Friendship Association demanded the total elimination of the prolonged economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by Washington on Havana. At the same time, the group denounced the aggressions of the Donald Trump administration against Cuba, amid the world crisis due to the new coronavirus.

As the epidemic brutally strikes the health of all nations around the world, Cuba is working to find vaccines, manufacture medicines, and send medical brigades with hundreds of health professionals to all continents, said the group from the northern Spanish region of the Basque Country in a statement.

The Marea de Vigo Municipal Group of Galicia also spoke out, denouncing that Washington's blockade of Havana hinders Cuba's acquisition of equipment and materials to confront the COVID-19, in addition to blocking the possibilities of providing and receiving international aid.
