Lima, June 5 (RHC)-- Peruvian Health Minister Victor Zamora spoke with members of the Henry Reeve Medical Contingent from Cuba, who have arrived to support the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Zamora greeted the Cuban medical professionals when they were meeting with Peruvian doctors, in coordination with their deployment to the regions of Ancash, Arequipa, Moquegua and Ayacucho.

The Association of Peruvian Professionals Graduated in Cuba highlighted the importance of the meeting and pointed out that "Cubans come to add and contribute to the Peruvian front line that has been fighting since the national emergency against Covid-19 began."

On the other hand, the Cubans living in the South American country joined the numerous pronouncements of Peruvian organizations and citizens, welcoming the contingent of 85 health workers from the island who arrived on Wednesday.

The Cuban doctors are responding to a call from Peruvian citizens to their government at a time when hospitals have collapsed, conditions are precarious, and respiratory equipment is insufficient, according to a statement by the Association of Cubans Living in Peru.  "Thank you for so much for your solidarity.  We are sincerely proud to be Cuban."

The doctors and other health workers will be divided into four brigades that will operate in two Peruvian regions whose populations have been requesting them for weeks.

The fight against COVID-19 in Peru is difficult, according to the authorities, because of the seriousness of the pandemic and above all because of the limitations of the health system, the result of neglect and under investment in its development for decades.
