Cuba reports 35 new cases of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours

Havana, August 22 (RHC)-- The National Director of Epidemiology of the Cuban Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Francisco Duran, reported 35 new cases detected on Friday of COVID-19, for a total of 3,617 positive cases across the island, since the beginning of the pandemic.

During his daily press briefing held Saturday morning, Dr. Duran said that over the past 24 hours -- up until 12 midnight Wednesday night -- fortunately, no patients died from the coronavirus.  A total of 89 patients have died in Cuba over the past several months.

Cuba has been experiencing in the last two weeks a surge in positive cases, primarily in the western part of the country, in the provinces of Havana, Artemisa, and Villa Clara.

To date, 3,006   patients have recovered -- with 55 patients released from hospitalization during the day on Friday.
