United Nations, October 6 (RHC)-- Cuba's alternate permanent representative to the United Nations, Ana Silvia Rodriguez, denounced that the United States manipulates the issue of human rights on the island, in order to subvert constitutional order.
In her intervention in the debate of the Third Committee of the 75th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, she referred to how the U.S. government, in clear violation of international law, finances agendas to subvert and modify at will Cuba's constitutional order.
"Washington manipulates the issue of human rights, looking for a justification to its criminal behavior with regard to the island," she said. Likewise, she rejected the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade in the midst of the pandemic, which hinders Cuba's efforts to face COVID-19 and protect the people's health, and confirms the criminal and genocidal nature of that policy.
Cuba's alternate permanent representative to the UN said that the U.S. blockade of the island violates the UN Charter and international law, and is the main obstacle to the development of Cuba.
Ana Silvia Rodriguez listed several actions that Washington executes against Cuba, among them, to include the island on an alleged list of countries that violate religious freedom, for which it has no mandate or morality whatsoever. "It is precisely the U.S. authorities that demonize Islam and have violated human rights, including religious freedom of millions of Muslims in their military adventures and in their own territory."
Likewise, and in the midst of the pandemic, she added, the White House articulates a campaign of discredit against Cuban medical cooperation, accusing Havana of human trafficking and modern slavery, without any evidence.
On the contrary, and despite the blockade, Cuba has been able to send 52 medical brigades to 39 countries and territories, to contribute to the fight against COVID-19.
"This means that by attacking Cuba on this front, a genuine example of South-South cooperation, the United States is hindering the access of millions of people in the world to quality health services."
