Havana, May 20 (RHC) – Cuba and Gambia favored the strengthening of bilateral cooperation links as both countries mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

During a ceremony marking the date in Havana, Cuban deputy foreign minister, Rogelio Sierra, stressed Cuba’s solidarity-oriented vocation and it's commitment to Africa, a continent that contributed to the formation of the Cuban nationality.

Sierra thanked Gambia for its support of Cuba’s struggle against the US economic blockade and for the release of the anti-terrorist Cubans unfairly imprisoned in US jails.

Meanwhile, Gambian ambassador to Havana, Masanneh Nyuku Kinteh, stressed the Cuban contribution to training personnel and its cooperation in the areas of health, education, agriculture and sports, among others.

Cuba and Gambia established diplomatic relations on May 19, 1979.
