Havana, May 23 (RHC) -- The Seventh International Law and Justice Meeting has wrapped up in the Cuban capital Havana, after several days of dialog and master conferences starring jurists from nearly 20 countries.

For three days, experts from Russia, China, Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela, and the host country Cuba have discussed a number of issues related to legal, civil and labor issues, among others.

Many domestic and foreign speakers highlighted Cuba's good practice regarding the treatment of prisoners, as well as the speed with which judicial cases are processed.

Xi Xiaoming, vice president of the People's Supreme Court of China, gave a keynote speech on Thursday about the need for protection of oceanic ecosystems and new legislation being implemented in his country and worldwide to that end.

The expert called for increased international efforts to implement such polices at a world and regional level.

A panel discussion to analyze the case of the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters held prisoner in the United States for more than 15 years also took place at Havana's International Convention Center as part of the congress.  A final declaration asked for immediate release of Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo Hernandez and Ramón Labañino, the three members of the group that remain unjustly imprisoned in the U.S.

Rene Gonzalez and Fernando Gonzalez, the other two members of the Cuban Five, have returned to Cuba after completing their prison sentences.
