Havana, May 30 (RHC) – In an effort to meet sugar production schedules, a group of 10 sugar mills continue operating in the current campaign, after another 24 plants have already met their commitment, according to Azcuba Sugar Group, which manages the sector.
In terms of provincial schedules, five territories have completed their goals, while eastern Holguin is about to join that group.
The current sugar campaign has been affected by what has been considered an unusual climatic scenario, however the production has increased three percent if compared to last year, Azcuba Communications official, Liobel Perez, told Prensa Latina news agency.
The last four campaigns have registered an increasing production trend, the specialist said and noted that Azcuba group planned to increase production by 18 percent this year, however heavy rains in some areas plus poor winter conditions have caused the loss of two thirds of the operational time at the industry.
