Havana, March 9 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel urged to take extreme measures in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, at a time when the country is experiencing the third outbreak of the disease with 4,606 active cases.

Through his official Twitter account, the Cuban leader wrote> "We cannot lower our guard" -- and issued an alert to the provinces of Pinar del Río, Mayabeque, Sancti Spíritus and Granma due to the increase of contagions.

He also recalled how Cuba recently set a record in the number of PCR tests for one day, with 20,578, and referred to the systematic check-up of the COVID-19 situation in the country in governmental meetings.

The Caribbean nation reported 1,41 new cases of the disease, the second highest number in almost a year of pandemic in the national territory.  The country accumulates 57,607 diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the pathogen causing the disease, and 23,436 people remain hospitalized for clinical epidemiological surveillance.
