Brussels, Jun 7 (RHC) Cuban residents in Belgium are preparing, with the support of local people, a container with medical supplies for the island, with syringes and needles for vaccination against Covid-19, Reynaldo Romero, coordinator of the initiative, said.

In statements to Prensa Latina, Romero added that the solidarity project involves Cubans living in Belgium and the Netherlands, whom he thanked for their commitment and help to Cuba, which is facing the double impact of the U.S. blockade and the pandemic.

According to Romero, the intention is to send the container in early July, with donations from hospitals and citizens and syringes and needles purchased with the money raised.

We are delighted. The work has been hard, but it is rewarding to see how we are making progress. He cited the recent donation of a ton of equipment and resources for use in the oncology sector in Cuba.

The Cuban government plans to immunize the entire population against COVID-19 with homegrown vaccines before the end of the year. That goal has generated a spontaneous mobilization in several continents to provide syringes and needles, which the island lacks due to the  U.S. blockade, which intensified amid the pandemic.
