Havana, July 10 (Xinhua-RHC) -- Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas is on an official visit in Havana to boost bilateral cooperation in biotechnology.

Speaking with reporters in the Cuban capital, Glas said: "Ecuador is involved in a very intense industrialization strategy as part of (the government development program) 'Living Well, ' and we are confident that we can construct that industrialization with our Cuban sisters and brothers.”

Glas said the objective of his first visit to the island was to "evaluate possible exchange agreements" in biotechnology development and pharmaceutical industry, as well as agriculture and livestock.

On Wednesday, Glas visited the headquarters of Labiofam, a Cuban scientific research center for veterinary, cleaning and other products, and hold a working meeting at Cuba's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment.

Havana and Quito already cooperate extensively in healthcare and education. Trade between the two countries has increased since Ecuador's President Rafael Correa visited Cuba in January 2009 and signed several important agreements.
