Eurodeputies visit Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples
Havana, February 5 (RHC)-- Fernando González Llort, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), received this Friday the delegation of MEPs and members of the group La Izquierda, visiting the island.
The Hero of the Republic of Cuba thanked them for their support in the European Parliament. "In a hostile environment they raise the voice of truth in the face of disinformation campaigns of the Cuban reality," González Llort remarked in the exchange. The visitors emphasized how much they have learned since their arrival last Monday about the resistance and progress made on the island despite the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade. Martin Schirdewan, co-president of the Left Group in the European Parliament, said "we passionately defend the cause of Cuba and the end of the blockade". Meanwhile, Sira Rego (in the photo), from Izquierda Unida, Spain, assured that they will work on initiatives to maintain the denunciation against the economic siege against the island.
In the dialogue, the work of the Movement of Solidarity with Cuba in Europe was highlighted, with organizations with many years of work and experience whose priorities are to create awareness on the consequences of the blockade for the population and to fight the campaigns of lies. The MEPs are carrying out an intense program that included a meeting with the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, with Esteban Lazo, head of the National Assembly of People's Power, visited community projects and sites of historical, social and cultural interest.
