Cuba Participates in Expo on Food Security

Havana, July 19 (RHC)-- Cuba will show its advances in food security during the Milan Expo that will take place from May 31st through October 2015 in that Italian city.

Held every five years, it is considered to be the most important space where nations present their social policies and results on topics of interest for the planet.

Executives of the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Cuba gave on Friday to officials of the Italian embassy to the island and members of the Italy-Cuba Business Committee details on the program of the Cuban stand, which will be of 250 square meters.

Miriam Martinez, Director of Fairs of that institution, said that Cuba will present in Milan some projects to increase agricultural and livestock production and improve their distribution.

She also highlighted the interest of sharing with other nations the experiences of Cuban farmers and cooperatives in their efforts to achieve better levels of efficiency to guarantee food for the population, and added that other topics would be the possibilities that for national production the opening of this sector to foreign investment will represent, as well as the level reached by applied scientific research.

Italy’s ambassador to Cuba, Carmine Robustelli, pointed out that the Expo, to be attended by representatives of 144 nations, can offer numerous possibilities of cooperation to Cuba, which she described as “an important protagonist of world debates on social policies.”
