Havana, July 17 (RHC)--Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel urged for the deployment of initiatives on  Children's Day, celebrated every year on the third Sunday of July, throughout the country.

The Cuban leader called for dedicating the day to those who represent "the hope of the world."

Let there be no lack of ideas and support for our boys and girls on the beaches, in the parks, in the neighborhoods or at home. Nothing is more important than their happiness. Let's celebrate Children’s Day, he tweeted.

Traditionally, cultural, sports, and recreational activities are held in parks and squares throughout the island for the youngest members of society.

The initiatives also take place in children's homes, special schools, pediatric hospitals, and other institutions specialized in child care.

On this occasion, the anniversary, established in 1974, has a special significance after two years of confinement due to the Covid-19 pandemic, for which the cultural institutions have planned a wide range of activities.

In addition to these options, parks and recreational centers in the largest Antillean Island will offer a day of games, musical shows, and raffles as a gift to the young public.

Cuba plans to endorse this year a new Family Code, in line with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which constitutes a paradigm shift.

This legal norm replaces the previous doctrine, which considered children as objects of control and protection, with one in which children are full subjects of rights and responsibilities.
