Cienfuegos, July 25 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Monday evening attended the artistic gala "Cienfuegos: Dreams and Hopes" -- a prelude to the central commemoration of July 26th, National Rebellion Day, in Cienfuegos.
At the Tomás Terry Theater and under the supervision of Roly Martínez Varens, artistic director of the Empresa Comercializadora de la Música y los Espectáculos Rafael Lay, and with a script by Richard Eleaga Alderete, the evening showcased the cultural values of this region in south-central Cuba.
The gala was televised live on Cubavision beginning at 9 p.m. local time. The show also paid tribute to Benny Moré, known as the Sonero Mayor, and to the outstanding troubadour Lázaro García, who recently passed away.
Among those performing during Monday evening's gala in Cienfuegos were Doraida Tillet and Ingrid Rodríguez, the Concuerda Duo, the Giros company, the Conjunto de Sones Los Naranjos and the emblematic Aragón orchestra, founded in Cienfuegos in 1939 and winner of several Granmy Latinos.
With this activity the "Terry", built in the 19th century and declared a National Monument, officially reopens its doors after almost four years of having undergone a major restoration, and after having hosted in its main hall the ninth edition of the Alternative Music Festival.
