MTSS Minister, Marta Elena Feitó Cabrera.

Havana, August 2 (RHC)-- Cuban authorities are seeking to apply labor measures to reduce energy consumption in the state sector of the economy, which is facing severe difficulties with electricity generation.

In this regard, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS) published a note on its website that called for maintaining the "indispensable minimum" of workers in production and service entities.

It points out that to this end, company managements may, among other measures, increase telecommuting and teleworking, grant vacations, adjust schedules, carry out labor relocations, and even work interruption, but only when none of the above alternatives can be chosen.

The text indicates that a ministerial order issued by the head of the MTSS, Marta Elena Feitó Cabrera, clarifies that it is up to each entity director to determine which labor and salary measures to apply following the characteristics of the activity.

The objective would be to reduce electricity consumption without harming workers' income, with the legal support provided by the Labor Code and its Regulations.

The minister also noted that if it is determined to work shorter shifts, the salary will be paid in correspondence with the actual time worked and not 100 percent. Hence the need for the implementation of the above measures was announced.
