Havana, Sep 5 (RHC)-- More than one million 697 thousand general education students and around 280 thousand university students returned to classrooms on Monday to resume the 2021-2022 school year in Cuba.

Despite the adverse economic situation the country is going through, essential resources are available for the school term, recently assured the Ministers of Education, Ena Elsa Velázquez, and Higher Education, José Ramón Saborido.

Velázquez said that teacher coverage is 97 percent guaranteed with more than 253 thousand teachers, while hired personnel, members of the boards of directors, and university students of the project Educando por amor (Educating for Love) will cover the remaining three percent.

The Minister explained that in each province, the necessary measures are being taken so that the teaching and education process suffers the least possible effects from the power cuts the country is experiencing.

Meanwhile, Saborido highlighted two relevant moments of the stage that is beginning: the entrance exams to higher education in November and the culmination of studies in December.

Around 25 thousand young people should graduate from university classrooms this year, while twelfth-grade students and all those who opt for a place in universities for 2022-2023 will be able to aspire to 103 008 positions.

Cuban President, Miguel Díaz-Canel, affirmed that this course will continue "against all odds", and showed confidence in the quality of the preparation to resume classes, conclude the current teaching calendar and prepare for the next academic period.
