Havana, September 16 (RHC)-- Cuba is preparing the test run for the referendum on the Family Code, a vote that will define the total validity of the law approved by the National Assembly of People's Power in July.

The president of the National Electoral Council, Alina Balseiro, explained that this September 18 a performance test of all mechanisms involved in the referendum on September 25 will be performed.

For this moment, the whole electoral structure is already activated, from the constituency level (communities) authorities, who will be in charge of ensuring the process at the base, a task for which they have been prepared.

More than 200 thousand people will participate in the referendum among the permanent electoral authorities and the assistants, supervisors, as well as children, who in Cuba are in charge of guarding the ballot boxes.

Balseiro said there is no precedent of a referendum of this kind in the country, so the preparation of the documentation and the electoral system to ensure transparency and adherence to legality has been much more intense.

On September 18, voting will also take place for Cubans who are abroad on diplomatic and state missions and can exercise their right to vote in more than one thousand polling stations set up for this purpose.

The Family Code protects human dignity and all the institutions of family law, eliminates any vestige of discrimination in the family environment, and rejects violence.
