Salvador Valdes Mesa exchanges with Cuban diplomats in the United Kingdom

London, Sept 20 (RHC) Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdes Mesa exchanged with diplomats and members of the Caribbean island's state mission in the United Kingdom, after attending the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

During the meeting held Monday at the Cuban embassy in London, Valdes said he had the opportunity to personally convey to King Charles III and other members of the British royal family the condolences of the Cuban people and government on the death of the monarch.

He also updated his compatriots on the complex economic situation Cuba is going through as a result of the tightening of the unilateral blockade imposed by the United States for more than 60 years, and on the tasks the country's leadership is undertaking to solve it.

The blockade hinders the development of our country, said the Cuban vice-president, who mentioned that the U.S. measures prevent Cuba from obtaining the necessary financing to buy raw materials and basic necessities.

He stressed, however, that despite the trade war imposed by Washington, Cuba managed to control the Covid-19 pandemic with its own vaccines, and is now working to solve the difficult energy situation, the

problem of shortages and inflation.

In this regard, he explained that work is being carried out to implement a food sovereignty and nutritional education plan, while promoting non-state management through small and medium-sized enterprises.

Valdés' meeting with the diplomatic staff and the Cuban state mission in the United Kingdom was also attended by the director of the Directorate of Europe and Canada of the Foreign Ministry, Gisela García, who was part of the delegation of the Caribbean island to the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, along with Ambassador Bárbara Montalvo.(Source:PL)
